The first problem you encounter is that the ferrules may not actually fit, without braking through the side of the neck pocket.
That hole in the neck won't do you any good either, so it needs to be plugged and relocated.
That hole in the body will need to be filled as well. I use a 1/4" dowel, and thin superglue. I also like to soak some thin superglue into the wood at the edges of the neck pocket, as this place is very vulnerable to cracking.
Once the dowel is cleaned up and level, you can position the ferrule wherever you want it. I'm going to do a bit of sculpting on that corner, so I'm going to move it in a little more than necessary. You can mark the hole off with a magic marker.
Using the black dot as my marker, I drill a new hole and testfit with a screw.
So now we put everything back together, using the three woodscrews, to make sure the neck is lined up. Now that we have a new hole in the body, we can use that as a guide to drill the new hole in the neck. I drill just enough to make a mark, since I just need to find a center for the 9/32" bit for the insert.
All that's left now is to drill out the recesses for the ferrules, and install the neck inserts.
